How to Make Better Choices with Time

How to Make Better Choices with Time

As you get older, it can often seem like time moves faster and faster and that you never have as much as you need, but it’s more about your own perceptions of time and how you choose to use it. By making better choices with your time, you may even start to notice yourself feeling happier and more fulfilled in your life. But how exactly do you make better choices with your time?

Avoid Mindless Time Suckers

It can be very easy to come home after a long day and not want to do anything else but plop down in front of the TV or get lost in social media, but what might not be so easy is admitting how many hours per week, or month, that you actually sit mindlessly in front of a screen. This isn’t to say you should always be working or using your time productively, but you should learn how to schedule fun things in your life that help you relax properly – enriching activities that make you feel refreshed and revitalized like reading a new book or taking a day trip somewhere. The best thing you can do is to find a way to relax that stimulates your body and/or mind so that you never feel like your time is wasted – even if you are just enjoying a lazy day out in the sun!

Prioritize Your Passions

People often wish they had more time to work on their own side projects, volunteer for things, or simply be more active in their communities/friend groups/families, but the lack of energy seems to always stand in the way. After all, doing something you don’t want to do all day, like working, cleaning, or running errands, can be pretty draining and make you not want to do anything but indulge in some mindless activities afterwards. However, simply flipping the switch and forcing yourself to make time for what you love or want can go a long way in helping you avoid feeling drained by everything else. If you have a little more flexibility in life, you can even try to do things in the mornings before your day officially starts so that you start your day off on the right foot. Want to spend more time with family? How about prioritizing having breakfast together. Want to paint? Wake up with the sun and just let yourself relax.

Don’t ever let yourself believe that there isn’t enough time in the day to do the things you truly want. Happiness is a choice, and it starts with making better choices with your time.
